Window Shutters - a classic finish to any room

Window shutters really are in a class of their own. Walk past any house with them and you’ll be able to see a world of difference compared with one with curtains. They evoke memories of times past and white dusty houses on the continent, full of warmth, sunshine and security. They really are the very essence of sophistication and can increase the value of your home as well as adding a classic finish to any room.

Aesthetic appeal and practicality

As well as their aesthetic appeal, they have practical benefits too, such as being able to provide sound reduction and give you some much needed peace, if you’re working from home, or you need to get some sleep. They also provide thermal insulation keeping the room warm in winter and cool in summer as well as some privacy. So you can not only shut out sound, but a bird’s eye view of the inside of your home for any passers-by. Thermal insulation will help you to cut down on energy bills, and its kind to the environment. It also adds a greater level of security because it stops potential burglars from seeing what valuables you have within.

Cleaning’s a doddle and insects are a thing of the past

When it comes to cleaning window shutters, you can simply give them a quick wipe with a damp cloth, and you won’t have to worry about your furniture fading and losing its colour as a result of UV sunlight. And in summer, how about those insects that always manage to come in because you have the windows open when it’s warm? When your outside windows are open, you can have your shutters closed so no insects are going to be dropping in for a visit.

Different styles of shutters available

Full height window shutters give great all over window coverage, but you don’t have to have them in that style if you want something slightly different. Full height shutters are great but why not go for café style? This type of shutter offers two types of open and shut, with a top part and a bottom part opening independently of each other, so you get the bottom half closed with the top open or vice versa. It gives you more options when you open your windows and better control over light and privacy.

Plantation shutters can look stunning

Plantation shutters open like a concertina and you can have these as café style shutters too, just that they will open and shut differently. These are elegant and reminiscent of warm summer days and continental holidays; they’ll definitely add a touch of something special to any room. Track system window shutters are extremely versatile in that you can you use them as room dividers or on the windows, the choice is up to you. They work on tracks, so you just pull them across.

Combine shutters and blinds – why not?

You can also combine window shutters with blinds so you get complete coverage, especially if you’re sensitive to light, which works really well in the bedroom. Also, if light really is a serious issue, especially if you’re trying to get children off to sleep in the summer, you could combine window shutters with blackout blinds, ones which have been treated with a special coating that cuts out light completely.
